Frequently Asked Questions About the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT)
General Questions
The Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) is the Army's new physical fitness test that measures Soldiers' physical readiness and combat fitness. It consists of six events that assess strength, power, agility, speed, and endurance.
The ACFT became the Army's official physical fitness test on October 1, 2022. It replaced the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) that had been in use since 1980.
Soldiers are required to take the ACFT at least twice per year. The test must be administered by a certified ACFT grader and documented in the Army's Digital Training Management System (DTMS).
Test Events and Scoring
The six events are:
- 3-Repetition Maximum Deadlift (MDL)
- Standing Power Throw (SPT)
- Hand-Release Push-Up (HRP)
- Sprint-Drag-Carry (SDC)
- Plank (PLK)
- 2-Mile Run (2MR)
Each event is scored on a 100-point scale. The minimum passing score varies by age and gender. Soldiers must achieve at least 60 points in each event and an overall score of 360 points to pass the ACFT.
Alternate Events and Modifications
Yes, the Army provides alternate events for Soldiers who cannot perform certain events due to temporary or permanent profiles. These include:
- Leg Tuck (LTK) or Plank (PLK)
- 2.5-Mile Walk (2.5MW)
- Swim (SWM)
- Bike (BIK)
Soldiers with temporary or permanent profiles may be authorized to:
- Use alternate events as specified in their profile
- Take the test in a modified form
- Be exempt from specific events based on medical conditions
Training and Preparation
Soldiers should follow a comprehensive training program that includes:
- Strength training focusing on compound movements
- Cardiovascular conditioning
- Functional fitness exercises
- Regular practice of ACFT events
- Proper nutrition and recovery
